Digital Assets and Products: how to link them starting from the asset
You can link one or more Digital Assets to your products starting directly from the asset, without having to open the details of each individual product. The association always goes through a media attribute, which determines where and how the asset appears on the product.
The guided flow is always the same, structured in two steps, and can be accessed from three different points in the platform: the asset details sheet, the Smartbar on a multi-selection, and the upload panel.
Prerequisites
This feature is only visible if your account has the Products section active. You also need the Can edit permission on the assets you want to link and at least one available media attribute — that is, an attribute you have edit rights on and that is associated with at least one product family. If you do not see this feature, contact your THRON reference account.
Access points: which one to choose
Start from your current workflow context.
Situation |
Access point |
|---|---|
You are working on a single asset and reviewing its data |
Asset sheet, Products tab |
You already have a group of assets in the platform to associate with the same products |
Smartbar on multiple selection in Digital Assets |
You are uploading files and want to link them immediately, without a second step |

Two-step flow: how it works
Regardless of the access point, the process is identical. You can always go back from Step 2 to Step 1 to review your selected options.
Step 1: choose the options
In this step, you define the context of the association.
Media attribute: mandatory if you have more than one media attribute available. You only see attributes you have edit rights on and that are associated with at least one product family. If you only have one, it is preselected and the selector remains disabled.
Language: mandatory if the chosen media attribute supports localization. Defines the language variant to which you register the association.
Family: mandatory only for certain configurations. Used to narrow down product search in the next step. If you select too many families, a validation message will block advancement.
If the platform can automatically determine all choices, Step 1 is skipped and you land directly on product selection. Inside the step you will also find a link to the media attribute guides.
Step 2: choose products
Here you indicate the products to associate the assets with. The selector at the top switches between the two available modes, Select product and Add in bulk.
Select product
The table displays products filtered according to choices made in Step 1, complete with search and pagination.
Refine results by filtering by family and language, or sorting by creation or update date.
Select products by checking rows. The number of selected products remains visible and you can reset the selection with a click.
You can select up to 25 products per operation.
If no product matches the search or active filters, the table displays an empty state message.
Add in bulk
Paste or type the list of product identifiers, such as SKUs, separated by commas.
You can enter up to 40 identifiers. If you paste more, the platform keeps the first 40 and alerts you.
Each identifier is validated in real time. Errors appear as tags on individual identifiers and in a summary panel, categorized into three cases: non-existent identifier, identifier not associated with the chosen media attribute, duplicate identifier.
With a single action you can remove all invalid identifiers and copy them to the clipboard, allowing you to review them separately.
If you return to Select product after entering identifiers, the platform will ask for confirmation: switching modes clears all typed identifiers.
Standard Preset
Use Select product when searching for products by attributes, such as an entire family or language, and you want to preview them before confirming. Use Add in bulk when you already have a list of SKUs from a file or another system: real-time validation immediately indicates which codes fail validation.
Access points specifics
Asset sheet: the Products tab
When to use it: you are working on one asset at a time and want to see the association result immediately.
Open the asset details and navigate to the Products tab in the sidebar.
Click on Link to products at the top right of the panel. If the asset has no linked products yet, the panel indicates this and guides you to the button.
Complete the two steps in the full-screen window that opens.
Upon confirmation, chosen products are linked and the asset product list updates. The flow applies only to the currently opened asset.
If the button is unavailable, hover over it: the tooltip explains why. You need edit rights on the asset and at least one available media attribute.
Smartbar: multi-selection in Digital Assets
When to use it: you need to link multiple assets already in the platform to the same products.
In the Digital Assets area, select the assets to link.
In the Smartbar that appears, click on Link to products, listed alongside other bulk actions such as download, share, and delete.
Complete the two steps. The window header indicates the number of involved assets and progress indicator, Step 1 of 2 or Step 2 of 2.
Upon confirmation, the platform links all selected assets as a background task, with one sub-task per product and a progress indicator tracking completion.
The action is disabled, with a tooltip explaining why, when selection exceeds 100 assets, when using Select all mode, when you lack edit permissions on at least one selected asset, or when no media attribute is available.
Upload panel: link while uploading
When to use it: files are not yet in the platform and you want them to arrive already linked to products.
Start upload and add files to the upload panel.
Open Additional actions, select Link to products, and click the corresponding button to enter the flow.
Complete the two steps. The flow remains within the upload panel and a back button returns you to additional actions selection.
Upon confirmation, the association is saved together with the upload. The option is disabled if you queue more than 100 files or if no media attribute is available.

Troubleshooting
You don't see the linking feature
The feature appears only if your account has the Products section active. Contact your THRON reference account to confirm.
The link button is disabled
Hover over the button: the tooltip indicates the reason. Depending on the cause, proceed as follows:
Selection exceeds 100 assets: split the work into batches of up to 100 assets and repeat the operation.
Select all mode active: clear selection and select assets specifically, staying within 100.
Missing edit permission on at least one asset: narrow your selection to assets you have rights on, or request missing rights from your organization users and folders administrator.
No media attribute available: check product data model configuration with your organization administrator.
Step 1 does not let you proceed
You selected too many families and a validation message blocks moving to Step 2. Reduce selected families to those strictly necessary to find products: family selection only narrows search, it does not define the association.
No media attribute to select
In Step 1 you only see media attributes you have edit rights on and that are associated with at least one product family. If the list is empty, check product data model configuration with your organization administrator.
A product identifier is flagged as invalid
Validation identifies three cases with different solutions:
Non-existent identifier: check code in product catalog, often a typo or decommissioned code.
Identifier not associated with chosen media attribute: return to Step 1 and select the correct media attribute for those products.
Duplicate identifier: remove from list, you only need one occurrence per product.
If there are many identifiers to fix, use the action that removes all invalid ones at once and copies them to clipboard: proceed with valid codes and review the rest separately.
Pasted more than 40 identifiers
The platform keeps the first 40 and alerts you: excess identifiers are ignored. Confirm linking on the first 40, then repeat for the remaining ones.
Entered identifiers disappeared
Switching from Add in bulk to Select product clears all typed identifiers after confirmation. If switching modes and wanting to keep the list, copy it elsewhere first.
Product not found in table
The table only displays products matching choices made in Step 1. Return to Step 1 and check media attribute, language, and selected families, then repeat search.
