Create the folder tree
Folders are the fundamental unit for organizing your Library in THRON. They allow you to control two key aspects of content governance: who can access the content and which applications can distribute it.
Create and Manage the tree
Create a new folder
- Access the Digital Assets section
- Click on the + New element button and then New Folder.
- Enter the Folder name (mandatory, max 100 characters).
- If you already have other folders you can select the Parent Folder, otherwise you can only create a top-level (root) folder.
- Click Save.
Edit, Move or Delete
- Edit: Select the folder and click on Edit Properties to change the name or code.
- Move: Drag the folder to the new position (Drag&Drop) or use the Move function by selecting the destination from the menu.
- Delete: Select the folder and click Delete. Warning: this action is irreversible and also removes subfolders. The contained Assets are not deleted but only removed from the folder.
- Favorites: Click the Star icon next to the name to add the folder to your Favorites and access it quickly from the dashboard.
The folder context menu is accessible from the breadcrumb at the top of the page.
Governance: Rights and Applications
Access Rights Management
Permissions automatically propagate from "parent" to "children" (Inheritance).
- Go to the Access Rights section of the folder from the folder's context menu.
- Click Add User/Group.
- For each user/group, define separately:
- Folder Rights
- Asset Permissions in the folder
- Click confirm to save

Associated Applications
Folders can be linked to specific applications with dedicated access requirements.
- From the context menu, select Associated Applications.
- A dedicated Associated Applications modal opens with the list of applications associated directly or inherited from the folder containing: application type icon, name and action to open it (if you have permissions).
- If you have permissions to create applications, you can associate one to the folder by clicking Go to the Marketplace, you will be redirected to the Applications and connectors page.
Localization
To make the structure usable for international teams:
- Open the Manage labels section.
- Select the desired language and enter the translation of the folder name.
- Save to apply the localized view for users.
The translated label will be used to display the folder name based on the language used on the platform.
Best Practice
Do not organize folders by company departments, but rather by the intended use of the assets. An effective structure reflects how content is consumed, ensuring solid and automated governance.
Configure Macro-areas (Root)
Create main folders based on asset value (e.g., Brand, Product, Marketplace).
Tree structure example:
Leverage Inheritance Safely
Save time by configuring permissions only on "parent" folders: rights automatically propagate to all subfolders.
- Admin/Manager Group: Assign Can manage folder on the parent folder to give full control over the entire tree.
- Operational Teams: Assign permissions on individual macro-areas based on their actual responsibilities.
System Limits
This section outlines the structural constraints to consider during the design phase:
- Quantitative Limits: The platform supports a maximum of 20,000 folders in total.
- Hierarchy: Each parent folder can host a maximum of 50 direct subfolders.
- Folder code: If not specified, it is automatically proposed by the interface. Once set, it is fundamental for API integrations.
Troubleshooting
- Can't create a folder? Verify you have permissions on the parent folder or check that you haven't exceeded the limit of 50 subfolders/20,000 total.
- Can't edit permissions? Ensure you have the Can manage users/groups right or contact the Admin.
