Media attributes: what they are and how to create them
This article explains how to manage Media attributes to enrich products with multimedia content such as images, videos and documents already present and enriched in the THRON platform.
To manage the product data model you must be an Administrator or have the "Can manage product data modeling" permission
The Media Gallery attributes are not simple containers, but dynamic connection points between the product catalog and the content repository. First of all, you must create at least one in the data model.
Supported Assets: Images, Videos, Documents, URLs, Audio and Pagelets.
Requirements:
To use Media attributes you must have created at least one.
To see the assets: you must have visibility on the folder that contains them.
To connect (associate) an asset: you must have the Share permission on the specific asset.
To modify the asset: the Edit permission is required.
## In-depth Articles - Creation of Product Attributes - Configure Groups and Users
Connect Digital Assets to a Product
To associate multimedia content with a specific attribute, follow these steps within the product detail sheet:
Locate the media attributes section on the right side of the page.
Click on Link resources relative to the attribute you want to populate.
In the screen that opens, use the folder tree on the left to navigate your repository.
-
Select the assets: Click on the thumbnails of the assets you want to connect.
Tip: Use the SHIFT key to quickly select a range of content.
Use the Filters (type: Image, Video, Document, etc.) or the Search bar (by file name) to quickly find what you need.
Click the confirmation button at the top right to close the modal.
Important: The association is not definitive until you click on Save Changes on the main product page.
Recommended Configuration
To keep product sheets light and performant, we suggest not exceeding 10-15 assets per single attribute, although the system allows higher limits.
Management and Sorting
Once connected, you can define the display order of the assets, which is essential to determine which image or video will appear as the "main" one in your output channels.
Sorting
You can change the order in two ways:
Drag-and-drop: Drag the thumbnails to the desired position.
-
Dedicated buttons: Use the arrows located on the right side of the asset list.
Remember to confirm the sorting and, subsequently, save the product sheet.
Disconnect a Digital Asset
To remove an asset from an attribute:
Select one or more assets from the list (use SHIFT for multiple selections).
Click the Red Button to remove.
Save Changes on the product page to make the removal effective.
View and Edit
Clicking on the thumbnail of a connected asset opens a preview player that shows the content and the relative Filename.
Asset Status: If an asset is in the Conversion phase or has an Error, you will see a specific message directly in the player.
Edit in DAM: If you have edit permissions, you will find the Edit in DAM button in the lower right corner of the preview. Clicking it will redirect you to a new browser tab to modify the metadata or the file directly in the central repository.
