Digital Assets in version X: what changes from version 7
Are you transitioning from version 7 to version X? It is not just an update. In version X, Digital Assets and Product information converge into a single experience: each asset carries with it the data of the Products it is associated with, you can find them with more powerful filters, and work on them using AMBRA AI features, which unleash their full potential on a unified archive. It is THRON's archive that reasons, at its best.
Your assets and folders remain the same: what changes is how you view, search, and enrich them. Throughout the transition period, both versions will remain active in parallel.
You will find both versions in the area selector in the top left: Digital Assets is version X, while the Digital Assets item labeled THRON v7 is version 7.
Folders: why you see them with a different name
Folders and their contents do not change. What changes is the label you see in the folder tree.
What happens in version 7
The folder tree shows each folder with the label in the current language. By default, this is the interface language, IT or EN, but it can be any other language configured on your THRON account. It is also the language in which you see asset titles and tag labels.
The order of folders follows this logic:
At the top, folders without a label in the current language, preceded by the language code in which the label is written. For example, if the current language is English and the folder has a label only in Italian, you see it as "(IT) Folder label". These folders do not follow alphabetical order.
Below, folders with the label in the current language, in pure alphabetical order: numbers are sorted as characters rather than values, so "10" comes before "2".
What happens in version X
You see each folder always with its Folder name, a single label across all languages. The name does not have to be unique: you can repeat the same name in different branches of the tree, for example a "2026" or "Campaigns" folder under each brand, without inventing variants to distinguish them.
The folder tree is in natural alphabetical order, which takes numbers into account: "2" comes before "10".
Multilingual Labels still exist and you can fill them in the languages active in the platform, for external uses where folders need to be localized, such as a B2B portal.
If you create a folder in version 7, you will also find it in the folder tree of version X: the Folder name is mandatory and is automatically set equal to the label.

- From tags to attributes: how you enrich assets
In version X, tags do not exist: the information describing an asset consists entirely of attributes.
What happens in version 7
Title, description, and author are editable asset properties.
Tags describe a qualitative characteristic of the asset and are organized in a tree structure.
You can link metadata to a tag, i.e., typed information: text, boolean, date, single and multiple selection. You can fill in metadata on an asset only after assigning the corresponding tag.
What happens in version X
On assets, you will find three types of attributes.
Type |
What it contains |
Can you edit it? |
|---|---|---|
System attributes |
Properties managed by the platform, such as owner, file name, and last modified date |
No |
Standard attributes |
Title, description, and author. They are always present and cannot be deleted |
Yes. Title and author cannot be saved empty, while description is optional |
Attributes |
Attributes created in your account to enrich assets, visible on all assets |
Yes, if you have edit permissions on the asset |
Attributes are typed: Short text, Long text, Date, Boolean, Single selection, and Multiple selection.
If an asset is associated with a Product, it also inherits the attributes of that Product. You see them in the asset details, but you do not edit them from there: to update them, you modify the Product.
What synchronizes between the two versions
If you edit title, description, or author in version 7, the value is automatically copied into the corresponding standard attribute in version X.
The reverse does not happen: if you edit title, description, or author in version X, the properties in version 7 remain unchanged.
Warning: tags and metadata from version 7 do not synchronize with version X attributes. If you enrich an asset in version 7 with a tag, you will not find that information in version X.

- Search and filters: how you find assets
Text search and filters are also used together in version X. Compared to version 7, you have new tools to find what you are looking for faster, and some default behaviors have changed.
Behavior |
In version 7 |
In version X |
|---|---|---|
Suggestions while typing |
Not available |
Up to 4 assets and 4 filters consistent with the text |
Search by Product data |
Only by Product identifier |
Also by Family and Product attributes configured in settings |
Assets with an empty attribute |
Not available |
Available on all attributes |
Where you search by default |
Across all folders |
In the folder where you are located. From the folder filter, you can extend the search in one click to subfolders or all folders |
What happens to filters when changing folders |
They remain active |
They are reset, except for the folder filter which adjusts to the new position |
Warning: search starts from the folder where you are located. If you cannot find an asset that you know you have, open Filters and set All folders.
To reset all active filters, click Reset.
What you can do with search
While typing in Search assets, the platform suggests up to 4 assets and up to 4 filters consistent with the text. Click a suggested asset to open its details immediately, or click a filter to apply it.
With an empty search field, you can find recent searches and filters.
Sort the list by Last modified or Creation date, newest first or oldest first.
What you can filter
Folder: This folder, This folder and its subfolders, or All folders.
Type: asset type, such as images, videos, audio, and documents, and file extension, up to 10 extensions.
Asset attribute: choose an attribute and a condition, for example Contains, Is exactly, or Is empty. Available conditions depend on the attribute type.
Product attribute: find assets based on data from associated Products, such as Family or Product attributes configured in settings. In version 7, you could only filter by Product identifier.
Owner: to find assets of a specific user.
All active filters apply together: an asset appears in the results only if it satisfies every filter.
List View: columns and attribute editing
In the List view, you choose which information to see for each asset and edit attributes without opening the details.
Columns: from the table settings button, click Manage columns and choose up to 10 columns, among system properties such as owner, file name, or creation date, and attributes.
Edit from table: double-click an attribute cell, enter the new value, and press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel. You can only edit attributes, not system properties, and only on assets where you have edit permissions.
The columns you choose apply only to you.
Linking an asset to a Product
In version X, you link assets to Products directly from the Digital Assets area, through a guided two-step flow. You can access it from three places:
the Products tab in the asset details;
the Smartbar, when selecting multiple assets;
the upload panel.
When to use it: you want to link photos, videos, or documents to multiple Products without opening each individual Product page.

Sharing an asset
Sharing types are the same as in version 7. From the asset menu, or from the Smartbar when selecting multiple assets, click Share and choose among URL, EMBED, and EXTERNAL SHARING, or click Go to Shareboard to view the shares already created for that asset.
URL and EMBED: work as in version 7.
EXTERNAL SHARING: is the only sharing type that changes. Details are below.
External sharing creates a public page with content that you send by email or by copying the link. Recipients do not need an account. Compared to version 7, some options have changed.
Validity period: choose between 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 1 week, a custom date, or no expiration. By default, the share expires after 7 days.
Allow download of original file: in addition to enabling or disabling downloads, you can prevent downloading the original file.
You no longer choose how much information to display on contents: the page always displays the minimum level.
Share name and Terms of use: you cannot edit them after creating the share. Expiration date, password, and download options remain editable.
The platform remembers the settings of the last saved share in the browser and suggests them for the next one. You can find all the external shares you created under External shares in the left panel.

AMBRA in Digital Assets
AMBRA AI brings together THRON's generative artificial intelligence features. In Digital Assets, you will find its capabilities directly among asset actions: for example, Transform image in the image menu, the AMBRA AI option in the Smartbar when selecting multiple assets, and automatic subtitle generation for videos.
