How Assets inherit Product attributes
This guide allows you to understand and configure how Assets inherit Product attributes. A correct configuration will allow you to fully exploit the potential of THRON and enable effective searches on product information.
Configure Product attributes
To proceed, ensure you are an Administrator
Choose attributes
Before attributes are visible and filterable on assets, you must choose which attributes to make available.
- Go to Settings > Digital Assets > Product Attributes Visibility
- Click on Add attribute to view and select available attributes
- Save the configuration
From this moment on, every asset associated with a product will show the values of the selected attributes
Applying changes generally takes a few hours; you will not be able to make further changes until the process is finished.
How you can view and use them
Once the configuration is complete, you can:
- filter by product attribute by selecting the desired one under Product attribute
- search by product attribute simply by entering the desired value in the search bar
- view the values of product attributes in the details of an asset, under Attributes > Attributes inherited from Products
The inheritance of product attributes is automatic, a simple asset - product association is sufficient
Best Practice
1. Choose attributes depending on their usage
The criterion for choosing attributes is: an attribute is useful if teams would use it to search or filter assets.
Some examples of highly operational attributes:
- Product category — to filter all assets related to a product family.
- Collection / Season — to quickly find all material of a campaign.
- Product line — to separate content between brands or sub-brands.
Avoid including very granular or technical attributes (e.g. internal codes, physical dimensions) that are not used as search criteria in the Library.
2. Leverage Mediagallery granularity
Configure only Mediagallery type attributes that contain valuable assets for searches:
- avoid mediagalleries of generic assets (e.g. certifications valid for several products)
- include specific mediagalleries for some channels (e.g. specific ecommerce)
System limits
- Quantitative Limits: You can choose up to a maximum of 20 product attributes
- Read-only attributes: inherited values cannot be modified directly on the asset; to update them, modify the product in the catalog.
Troubleshooting
- Can't see the settings section? Make sure you are an Administrator
- Can't see product attributes in Library? Verify you have at least the permission Has access to product information (read only)
- Can't see the value of a product attribute? Check that the asset - product association is correct
-
Search results are not what you expect?
- Verify that the product attributes have been configured correctly
- Check that the assets are correctly associated with the products
- Ensure that the mediagalleries where the assets you are looking for are present are included in the configuration
