Benefits of using media attributes (best practice)
To configure product media attributes you must be an Administrator or have the "Can manage product data modeling" permission.
The immediate result of a correct configuration is that each team finds exactly the assets they need, without browsing messy archives, and each channel receives the right content without manual intervention.
The media attributes are the Media Gallery type fields that you add to the product Family to organize digital assets according to their intended use. Instead of uploading everything in a single generic gallery, define separate attributes for each flow: PDP, brochure, technical sheets, certifications, settings, and so on.
Why separate media attributes by flow
A single generic Media Gallery attribute forces all teams to download and filter manually. With dedicated attributes you get three concrete advantages instead.
Immediate findability. Is the e-commerce team looking for the hero image for the PDP? They go directly to the PDP_MAIN_IMAGE attribute. Does the purchasing department want the supplier sheet? They open SUPPLIER_SHEET. Zero ambiguity, zero wasted time.
Automatic distribution on channels. THRON automations (exporters to Shopify, Amazon, Brand Portal, Print) read specific attributes. If you correctly map the source attribute, the channel always receives the correct asset without manual intervention.
Quality control by flow. You can configure separate Completeness Markers for each media attribute. You know at a glance which products do not yet have the updated brochure or uploaded certification.
User guide: create dedicated media attributes
Go to Platform Settings → Products → Attributes and click New Attribute.
Choose the Media Gallery type.
Enter a descriptive and unique Code (e.g.
PDP_MAIN_IMAGE,TECHNICAL_SHEET,BROCHURE).Assign the correct Attribute Group (e.g. "Commercial Media", "Technical Media").
Click Create Attribute.
Go to the product Family and add the newly created attribute.
Note: You can insert up to 100 assets per single Media Gallery attribute. Each product can have up to 500 attributes per Family.

Media attributes by flow: examples and best practices
PDP (Product Detail Page) — E-commerce and Marketplace
The most critical flow. PDP assets feed directly into Shopify, Amazon, e-commerce sites, and marketplaces. Wrong quality and format block publication.
Attribute |
Recommended Code |
Content |
|---|---|---|
Main Image |
|
Hero shot on white/neutral background, frontal |
Secondary Images |
|
Side angles, back, details |
Product Video |
|
360° video, demo, unboxing |
Packshot |
|
Product in original packaging |
Best practice: Keep PDP_MAIN_IMAGE with only one slot (or max 3) and rigid technical standards (resolution, background, naming). Separate it from secondary images to prevent the channel from accidentally receiving a detail image as hero.
Brochures and Print Catalog
Assets for print publishing have different formats and resolutions than the web. Keeping them separate prevents the graphics team from working with compressed or web-optimized files.
Attribute |
Recommended Code |
Content |
|---|---|---|
Print Images |
|
High-resolution files (300 dpi+), TIFF or PNG |
Product Brochure |
|
Updated commercial PDF |
Lifestyle Images |
|
Contextualizations, mood shots, settings |
LIFESTYLE_IMAGES attribute separate from PDP_MAIN_IMAGE. Settings have editorial value and are used in catalogs, socials and lookbooks — but must not appear as main image on e-commerce.
Technical Sheets and Documentation
The document flow is for area managers, B2B distributors and technical portals. Keeping it separate from commercial material ensures that the right document reaches the right recipient.
Attribute |
Recommended Code |
Content |
|---|---|---|
Technical Sheet |
|
PDF with dimensions, materials, specifications |
CAD / 3D Files |
|
Files for design and rendering |
Assembly Instructions |
|
PDF or instructional video |
Technical Drawings |
|
Schematics, diagrams, boards |
Manufacturing/Interior Design Best practice: Separate TECHNICAL_SHEET from ASSEMBLY_INSTRUCTIONS. Distributors often import only technical sheets in bulk — a dedicated attribute makes the automatic mapping clean and reliable.
Certifications and Compliance
Certifications have a different logic from other documents: they expire, are updated, must be traceable for audits.
Attribute |
Recommended Code |
Content |
|---|---|---|
Certifications |
|
CE, ISO, dermatological, resistance, REACH |
Certificates of origin |
|
Documents for customs and international compliance |
Best practice: Add a "Valid until" date attribute to certification type assets and fill it in at the time of upload. This way the team always knows when a document expires and when it needs to be renewed.
Supplier Sheets and B2B Materials
The flow to suppliers requires specific assets that must not circulate on consumer channels.

Settings and Editorial Content
Used on socials, landing pages, Brand Portal and seasonal campaigns. They have a short life cycle and must be easily replaceable season by season.

Recommended Configuration
If you are configuring media attributes for the first time, start from these 4 essentials and add the others as teams actually need them:
